Potential Reasons That Your Air Conditioner is Blowing Hot Air

Don’t lose your cool just because your air conditioner is blowing hot air.

There are many reasons why this could be happening, and a number of problems have quick and easy solutions.

Is Your Thermostat On?

You’d be surprised at how many people forget to switch their thermostat from heat to cool for the summer or just leave it on auto.

If that’s all the problem is, a quick flip of the switch to fix it and you are good to go.

Your Refrigerant Levels

To keep evenly blowing cool air, your air conditioner needs the proper level of refrigerant.

When your system springs a leak (which does happen over time, due to wear and tear) the refrigerant leaks out and your air conditioner can’t cool the air.

This is a problem that needs the trained eye of a professional. They will need to source the leak as well as try to determine where and why a leak occurred.

Maybe the Breaker is Offflipped-switch

Another common (and easy!) fix for your hot/cold air problem is simply setting the breaker to the right position.

With power surges in your household, given the uptick in your energy needs, there are times when your system might trip the breaker.

Just put it in the “on” position.

Get Better About Changing Your Filter

As far as easy and very effective DIY tasks go, changing your air filter is right up there. A dirty air filter will compromise air flow.

In some cases, it can freeze because of condensation and prevent cool air from passing through to your vents. It’s recommended that you change your filter once a month for optimum results.

Your Air Conditioner is Frozen

Even when it’s really hot outside, resist the urge to dial the thermostat down super low to compensate. This can cause more problems for your comfort.

When you kick your system into overdrive like that, the coils can freeze. This means that the only air coming out is generating from the motor, which is frozenhot.

To avoid this, set your thermostat at a steady 72 °F.

To thaw a frozen system, turn it off and wait a few hours.

After it has thawed out, you can turn it back on, and you should be nice and cool again.
