Avoid a Sweaty Summer Nightmare With Air Conditioning Maintenance

maintainac

In today’s modern world, we have enough reasons to lose sleep. Between stresses about work, family and so much else, we shouldn’t give ourselves any reasons to give ourselves insomnia.

However, if there is anything that has the potential to keep us up (and sweaty!) at night, especially in the summer, it’s a malfunctioning air conditioning system. It can be almost impossible to get a good night’s sleep when your house is too hot.

However, there is one solid way to avoid the summer insomnia and that’s performing some routine maintenance on your HVAC system to ensure its running in tip-top shape through the entire season.

Reduce Allergies With Well Maintained Filters

breathecleanairOne of the few downsides of the summer season is the allergies that come with it. If you are sensitive to the allergens in the air, summer can be filled with tissues, antihistamines, and watery eyes.

While the dust and pollen circulate through the air outside, your systems air filters keep your indoor air free, as long as they are maintained.

Many homeowners don’t know exactly how often they should have their filters replaced because there are many variables to consider.

  • Frequency of Use: For homes that are rarely used, like a vacation home, the HVAC filter can survive being replaced every 6 to 12 months.
  • Number of (Human) Occupants: Every person in a house adds work for the filtration system. A single occupant can probably go 6 to 12 months between replacements as well. However, the average suburban home should probably perform the service every 3 months.
  • Number of Pets: Pets tax the air filters of an HVAC system pretty strenuously. If your house just has one pet, you can consider replacements every 2 months. Any more pets and that frequency can rise to every 30-45 days.
  • Allergy Sensitivity: If you have any occupants of your house who are particularly sensitive to allergies, the frequency should also be at the 30-45 days mark, to keep as many allergens out of your indoor air as possible.

Always Improve Comfort in the Hottest Months of the Year

alwaysObviously, the most important feature of your HVAC system is the fact that it does the job of keeping you comfortable for the hot and cold months.

However, over time, a poorly maintained system loses the ability to create comfort in the same way. Many things need maintenance. A clean filter, as mentioned above, keeps your system running smoothly.

On top of that, devices like thermostats need occasional calibration. Without proper maintenance, you may not be getting the comfort you crave.

A Maintained System Has no Emergencies

avoidemergenciesReliability is critical in any big piece of equipment and its something we all look for in our appliances.

However, reliability is a two-way street. It’s hard for any appliance, no matter how well-made, to function reliably without maintenance.

If you take care of your systems, they’ll take care of you. As the old adage goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
