The Importance of Replacing Air Filters

Filter Changing, Are They Really Important?

The HVAC system depends on having fresh air running through it to be able to function properly. The filter plays an important role in the overall operation of this system.

When the air is sucked through the duct work and into the furnace system, there are dust particles and other various debris that comes with it. The filter stops the particles from entering the system, and ending up in the home.

How Often Do I Change It?

When a filter is clogged, the system is not running at full capacity. This means that the system is working overtime just to produce the same results as it normally would.

If it is clogged, this also means that the system is getting dust and dirt into it, which can be harmful. All of those dust particles will be redistributed throughout the home. This can be a harmful situation for those who have allergies. If there are pets in the home, this can be a lot of dander and other particles that end up in the airways.

All systems are different and so are the filters they require. There are some cheaper filters that need to be changed once a month. These are typically the ones that are purchased at the local hardware store.

There are filters that are washable, and there are ones that are made to last a quarter or three months. One thing that people do is spend to little time on making a filter selection, when it has such importance in their homes airways being clear and their systems running efficiency.

Will Replacing the Filter Save Me Money?

A dirty filter can cause the electric or gas bill to be higher from consumption. But just like a car, a unit that is maintained will last longer than one that isn't. It would be the same as never changing the oil in the car?

Eventually it would stop running and have a costly repair bill. There are only so many hours in the day, and busy people often don't have time to worry with such matters. This is why it is important to have a good HVAC company helping out.

At least two times during the year, a preventative maintenance should be performed on the unit. This includes a filter change, checking all fluid levels and making sure a unit is running properly. A PM can ensure that there are no issue that can cause maintenance problems in the near future. It's the best way to prevent an outage when the system is needed most.
